You know what's been missing from the Golden Globe awards the past few years? A big, greasy, bumbling anti-Semite lounging in the audience with a big patronizing grin on his face. Things are starting to look up though--Mel Gibson was there this year.
It appears Mel Gibson was just giving us a preview of what's to come because he is back in the movies after a seven year absence which he spent directing a scary Jesus movie that pretty much sucked, getting arrested and blaming all of the above on the Jews. But let's put that all behind us, shall we? Mel Gibson is officially back. And I'll bet you thought I didn't have any good news for you today.
Gibson largely disappeared after the incident, but returns to theaters Friday with a new movie, "Edge of Darkness," a thriller about a Boston police detective seeking revenge for the murder of his 24-year-old daughter. Receiving lukewarm reviews so far, the movie is similar in tone with past blood-drenched Gibson films such as "Ransom" and the "Lethal Weapon" franchise. "It was time," Gibson, 54, tells The Associated Press. "I felt like getting back in the saddle. I felt like I was getting stale about seven or eight years ago. Stepped back, did some things I wanted to do. Did a few things I didn't want to do. And then time to come back."It doesn't get much better than this, folks. Mel Gibson's new movie is sure to be incredible, as would any film starring somebody as offensive and drunken as Mel Gibson. That simply can not fail. I'm not sure what Edge of Darkness is about, but I'm guessing it has something to do with eliminating Jews in the quest to find the hottest pair of sugar-tits in town.
Let's not be all pessimistic here, though. Lots of people can bounce back after enormously embarassing bouts of anti-Semitism. For example, um...Hitler? No, that didn't work out. Um...ok, so nobody in Hollywood has ever really been nailed with the kind of bigotry that's been carried by Mel Gibson, but that's something he should be proud of, actually. He's unique. And perhaps the rejuvenation of his career will help us all to forget what a pompous, totally unlikeable jackass Mel Gibson is.
Nah, probably not.
